SANKT (SKT.) HANS BONFIRE*

Those of you who have been in DK for more than a year have most likely heard or even taken part in a Skt. Hans bonfire. Those of you who haven't, should definitely join us in this activity. (background on this after the practical info) Normally we would use this "celebration" to have a picnic, hygge, company, observe other people, etc... :-) but since the weather does not seem to be all too suited for a picnic, we have come up with another plan.

DR Byens concert hall offers special tickets for 25kr when booked on the actual day. They have a special celebration going on in honour of Sankt Hans. We though this might be an excellent way to combine culture with pleasure. The evening starts at 20:00 with an indoors concert (program: http://www.dr.dk/koncerthuset/). Afterwards there will be the usual bonfire to burn the witch accompanied by more music.

In order to make sure we can sit next to each other we will book the tickets for us but you will have to transfer the money to us first. So the sign up this time is a little bit different. If you transfer 25kr to the account below before Saturday 9am, we will book tickets. In case you cannot make that or forget, you can always buy the tickets yourself but we might not be sitting next to each other. If all the cheap tickets are sold out, the price will be 55kr. First come, first serve!

It is worth mentioning that the concert hall of DR Byen is absolutely beautiful. Definitely worth going just to see the concert hall!

WHEN: Saturday, June 23
WHERE: DR Byens Concert Hall (Koncerthuset - Emil Holms Kanal 20 - 0999 København C)
TIME: 19:30
DEADLINE: Transfer money to Nina Vang, Reg. nr: 4720 konto nr: 4720823225 before Saturday morning 9am with mention of you name so we know who's coming. Be aware that if there are no cheap tickets left we will buy the slightly more expensive ones but last we checked there were still 100+ tickets available.
TO BRING: a blanket to sit on after the concert, warm clothes (remember we're in Scandinavia and it might rain:-)) & a friend or two :-)
SIGN UP: Sign up using the link below as well so we know who is coming. Also if you decide to book you own ticket. That way we know how many people we should be expecting. (A lot of work this time ... I know :D)

Sign up using the link below so that we know how many people we should wait for whether we booked the ticket for you or not.

*The 24th of June is supposedly the birthday of John the Baptist. However, like Christmas eve, Sankt Hans evening is also a remnant from historical pagan tradition. Sankt Hans evening coincides with the known Midsummer where the longest day of the year is celebrated. This celebration has been the most important celebration of the summer. It is also known as the burning of the witch. This is not in direct linkage to the medieval burning of the witches though. A figure resembling a witch is placed on top of the fire and it is said that the witch is flying to Bloksbjerg (the mountain Blok) in Harzen (DE). The bonfire as well as the witch is a newer tradition coming from German craftsmen who visited Kalundborg (DK) in the 1860'ies. In connection to the traditional midsummer rituals farmers would have bonfires but the purpose was to scare witches and evil spirits away and not burn them on the fire.
