THANKSGIVING 2011!

Hi friends!

This coming Thursday it will be Thanksgiving (in the U.S. at least) and even though Thanksgiving might not be a tradition of yours, we would still like to invite you to our annual Thanksgiving dinner.

The reason is that we support the original thought of Thanksgiving - giving thanks for all the things that we have. If you stop and think, we are sure that you will be able to find more than just one thing :-)

Now for the practical info:

WHEN: Saturday, November 26
TIME: 18:00 - 20:00 - Thanksgiving dinner
20:00 - 22:00 - Movie
WHERE: @ the church, Baggesensgade 7, 2200 Copenhagen; 1st floor!
DEADLINE: Wednesday, November 23
COST: 50kr per person (this includes all food)

This is how we will do it. The food will be prepared by us but participants will be signed up to a team and given a task e.g. setting up, cleaning up, decorations etc. So as soon as you sign up you might get an email with info on which team you've been put :-). Together we'll make it a great dinner!

You are more than welcome to bring a friend along. Remember to also sign your friend up.

Note that we might have to put a max of participants due to space. So, hurry to sign up and please keep the deadline! And please bring the 50kr with you in cash so that we don't have to hunt you all down afterwards :-).

The Hubertus Hunt 2011 - hunt without prey

Hi friends!

It is about time to witness a true Danish tradition especially connected to the Deer park (Dyrehaven) north of Copenhagen.
The Hubertus hunt is a yearly event for people as well as horses. Riders in red jackets follow an 8 km route containing obstacles as fences and the famous water grave.
Join us in watching as they race through and get all wet and muddy.

WHEN: Sunday, November 6
WHERE: Deer park (Dyrehaven) in Klampeborg.
We meet at Klampeborg St. and walk to the area together (20min walk)
TIME: Meeting time at Klampeborg St - 9:30
Heading back to the city 12:00
BRING: off road walking shoes

Remember that there is a special train ticket on Sundays that allow you to travel on all forms of public transportation for just 14DKK. NB: It is a very popular event. Also for other Danes so all the trains are going to be packed! Remember to leave in good time and the earlier you can be on the C line (if you take the S-train) the better.

Please let us know by Friday whether you will come!!! so that we won't meet up just to go back again since no-one was there :).

Dyrhaven/The Deer Park

Hi Friends,

Some of us are planning to go to the deer park north of Copenhagen this coming Sunday morning before church. You need to enjoy the weather as long as it lasts and the leaves are about to change colour so it will be a amazingly beautiful sight.

The plan is to leave from Klampenborg station at 10am (sharp!) and go for a 1 - 1,5 hour walk in the park.

The S-train used to be free on the first Sunday of the month but they stopped that service in July. They replaced this by offering a special Sunday ticket that costs 14DKK and will allow you to travel the rest of the day on all forms of public transport (incl. S-train, train, metro & bus). You can book this ticket by sending a text message saying "Søndag" to 1415 or online at 1415.dk. (more information: http://www.dsb.dk/s-tog/kampagner/gratis-sondag/) I'm not sure whether this ticket can be bought at a kiosk or train stations.

When: Sunday, 2 October. Klampenborg station @ 10am

Fall/Winter CONNECTion

Hi Friends,

A new season has started and we thought it'd be good to start with explaining what CONNECT is and what we stand for. Now most of you have already heard about CONNECT and know what it is but we want to share these three key principles with you that are central to our ministry.

GOD
Your purpose in life is to have a personal relationship with God.
You can focus on the connection to God during our weekly life groups through bible study, prayer and sharing life.

EACH OTHER
Your life is meant to be shared.
You can connect to other young adults from FIBC through various activities that we mostly organise on Saturdays. These can range from Movie Nights to sports activities and are open for your friends to join. So, please feel free to bring them along!

CHURCH
Your resources and abilities were given by God to use in different ministries.
You are encouraged to participate and be involved, even if you´re only staying for a couple of months.

Whether it is through bible study groups, games nights, coffee after church or other activities, we love meeting and connecting to you and we're looking forward to this new season.

Pedals & Paintings

Hi friends!

We thought it to be time for another activity outdoors.
Although this comes slightly last minute, we hope that some of you would have time and will join in.

WHEN: Saturday, July 16
WHAT: Visiting Sophienholm (Nybrovej 401, 2800 Kgs. Lyngby)
HOW: By bike
TIME: 14:30 - approx.17:30

Meeting Point: Nørrebro Station, the open space/square between the station and Føtex at 14:30 sharp.

The Plan: To see this nice setting of an old beautiful building very nicely located at Bagsværd Lake. After biking for 45-60 min., we will relax on the grass lawn overlooking Bagsværd Lake, walk around the gardens, have a drink in the cafeteria etc. Depending on what the participants decide, we could visit the exhibition. Also depending on the mood, we could go around Bagsværd Lake on the way home.
We will leave it up to the participants to decide whether we do something afterwards, like crashing someone's place, etc... :-)

About the place:
Sophienholm was built in 1769 as a country house by Theodor Holmskjold, director-in-chief of the Danish Postal Services. It was named after his wife, Sophie.

Inside:
Sophienholm is the exhibition hall of The Municipality of Lyngby-Taarbæk and 4-5 majour exhibitions are shown throughout the year.
The current exhibition is "A Place in the Sun" - women artists born 1850 - 1950. Entrance fee: 60DKK per person (50DKK for students).

Outside:
Sophienholm contains gardens that are unique to Danish landscape gardening tradition. From the beginning it was formed in a thoroughly romantic garden landscape style by Ramée and enriched by some of the following owners. Those with a particular interest in Danish landscape gardening have a possibility to study 200 years of its history.

BURNING HOT ACTIVITIES

SANKT (SKT.) HANS BONFIRE*
Those of you who have been in DK for more than a year have most likely heard or even taken part in a Skt. Hans bonfire. Those of you who haven't, should definitely join us in this activity. (background on this after the practical info) We will use this "celebration" to have a picnic, hygge, company, observe other people, etc... :-)

WHEN: Thursday, June 23
WHERE: Frederiksberg Garden (main entrance: Runddel 1A, 2000 Frederiksberg)
TIME:
17:15 - Some of us plan to arrive there in order to save a spot. You can come when it fits you. Try to find your way to us on the grass lawn between the yellow building and the "lake". At the main entrance you take the left path (just follow the other people) and you'll get to the lake, the lawn, and the yellow building. If you give up on finding us on your own, give us a call (6171 6551) and we'll either guide or come get you.:-)

21:20 - 21:30 Speaker by Claus Meyer (Danish gastronomical entrepreneur)

*The 24th of June is supposedly the birthday of John the Baptist. However, like Christmas eve, Sankt Hans evening is also a remnant from historical pagan tradition. Sankt Hans evening coincides with the known Midsummer where the longest day of the year is celebrated. This celebration has been the most important celebration of the summer. It is also known as the burning of the witch. This is not in direct linkage to the medieval burning of the witches though. A figure resembling a witch is placed on top of the fire and it is said that the witch is flying to Bloksbjerg (the mountain Blok) in Harzen (DE). The bonfire as well as the witch is a newer tradition coming from German craftsman who visited Kalundborg (DK) in the 1860'ies. In connection to the traditional midsummer rituals farmers would have bonfires but the purpose was to scare witches and evil spirits away and not burn them on the fire.

HOT FEET & HOT BBQ FLAMES

Within the frame of good company we will do two main things: walk & eat.
The walking will be done in the Deer Park in Klampenborg. The eating will be a BBQ held in the Nielsen's garden in Klampenborg.

You will bring your favourite kind of meat for the BBQ (and/or vegetables for that matter).
Beside that, we would like to divide among ourselves the following things to bring: salads (potatoes, pasta, green, you name it, etc...), soft drinks, plastic plates, plastic cups, plastic cutlery.
To get a better overview of how much we need of each item we want you to sign up. Deadline for sign up is Wednesday, June 22.

Those who signed up will receive a list on how we divided the items among us.
We remind you that you are more than welcome to bring friends along. Also, if you can't make it for the walk in the Deer Park, you are welcome to join just for the BBQ.

Rollin' to Dragør

Warm up your bikes friends, for the rollin' will be on our bikes. Dragør is a little old fishermen town situated in the south of the island Amager (where Kastrup airport is as well). Its thatched roof houses and charm makes it one of the sights to see outside of Copenhagen.

WHEN: Saturday, May 14
TIME: 13:00 - we will only wait the academic quarter for latecomers :)
MEETING POINT: Kongens Nytorv (the King's new square) @ the entrance to the Metro
DETAILS: The trip takes approximately 1 hour one way. We will make a short water pit stop at Tårnby Station. While there, we will do a short tour of the old town, the little nice old harbour and visit the fish smokery shop. There will also be time to relax or play a game of Ultimate Frisbee. Food during our visit there is optional. You have two options: to bring something along or eat in Dragør (there are some eating facilities there).

Now that the Holidays have passed and most of us are back here again, it is time to get together!
We thought, why not get together by joining us in striking pins with a ball? Yes, that is what we plan to do. You are more than welcome to bring a friend along.

In order to book the correct number of bowling lanes it is important to know how many of you are coming.

Winter Wonder Land!

Wintertime is here, in case you might have missed the snow… :-)
We think this calls for an afternoon with old fashioned Christmas hygge.

Every year Tivoli is transformed into a Christmas fairytale with lots of lights, elves and booths selling food, Christmas decorations, glögg, etc. Tivoli’s magic works for both old timers and newcomers. Come and join us!

After exploring Tivoli in its winter outfit, we’ll warm ourselves with some hot beverage in a café nearby.

Hi friends!

With regret I have to inform you that I, Julia, have made a mistake when I was supposed to book the rooms for the Thanksgiving dinner. The consequence is that we can't be in the rooms we planned to and the room we can use is not geared for a high table Thanksgiving dinner.
However, don't sign off yet! We will do something else in stead but still in the thanksgiving spirit. :-)
The activity is: Build Your Own Turkey Sandwich & Watch A Movie

HOW: Right after the deadline, a list with needed ingredients will be sent out for you to sign up on. On the day, all the brought ingredients will be gathered so that you can build your sandwich as you like it.

Worship Night in Bethesda

Worship in Bethesda is organized by "Indre Missions Unge i København". Although the event is in Danish there are many songs in English. Even if you don't speak Danish It is still great experience to come together with so many young people to worship the Lord.

Worship in Bethesda seeks to provide a context for worship and thanks to Almighty God. It is our desire to bring together young people from churches and Christian communities in and around Copenhagen to worship our Creator and Savior. We hope that this event can help to associate Christians in and around Copenhagen closer together and be a place where people can experience the joy of praise.

As there are some costs associated with organizing Worship in Bethesda, it costs 25 dkk. please pay in the hallway.

The Royal Theatre at Rosenborg castle

This is an annual event performed by the Royal Theatre where bits and pieces from the repertoire 2010/2011 are presented. Since the repertoire consists of opera, ballet as well as play one can experience a nice variety. Join us and get a culture and good company cocktail.:-) You are welcomed to bring friends along.

*The 24th of June is supposedly the birthday of John the Baptist. However, like Christmas eve, Sankt Hans evening is also a remnant from historical heden tradition. Sankt Hans evening coincides with the known Midsummer where the longest day of the year is celebrated. This celebration has been the most important celebration of the summer. It is also known as the burning of the witch. This is not in direct linkage to the medieval burning of the witches though. A figure resembling a witch is placed on top of the fire and it is said that the witch is flying to Bloksbjerg (the mountain Blok) in Harzen (DE). The bon fire as well as the witch is a newer tradition coming from German craftsman who visited Kalundborg (DK) in the 1860'ies. In connection to the traditional midsummer rituals farmers would have bon fires but the purpose was to scare withes and evil spirits away and not burn them on the fire.

Friday Concert

Hope you are all doing well. Is anyone up for some cultural experience?!
I discovered last week that the Royal Danish Music Conservatory actually has free concerts every now and then. This Friday I'm going to a cello concert where a number of cello students will perform. It's from 19:30 - 21:30 at the conservatory (across Forum metro station) and afterwards there is also a half an hour (free) night concert with a string quartet consisting of two violins, a viola and a cello for those who are interested in that. So far it's me and Julia that are going. It says that seats are limited but I don't think this will be an issue so please join!

I most likely forgot half the people so, if you know anyone that might be interested, just forward the invite. :)

We all got it but the question is: "Do you know yours?"
Now you have the chance to discover and define it.

The concept of S.H.A.P.E. was created by Rick Warren with the intention to help people remember the five factors God uses to prepare and equip people for a purpose driven life. The acrostic stands for:
Spiritual gifts :: Heart :: Abilities :: Personality :: Experiences
In this study we are going to look at each factor creating a base for our individual SHAPE.

FOR WHOM:: LIFEgroup, LIFEgroup ALPHA, other who have an interest
WHERE:: in your LIFEgroup
WHEN:: in the so called "transition period" - January 2010 to mid February 2010.
The book can easily be divided into 4 parts, thus it can be studied in minimum 4 weeks. However, the exact starting date you must agree with your leader.
MATERIAL:: the book S.H.A.P.E. by Erik Rees (approx. price 80DKK.)

In order to participate you'll need a book. Books need to be ordered.

Counting pumpkins in Tivoli....

Hi friends!

Halloween is here and Tivoli is dressed up for the occasion. To this occasion belongs the counting of pumpkins.... Not an easy task, I must say, since there are thousands of them.
You are hereby invited to join us for a walking tour through Tivoli admiring it's "new outfit" and counting pumpkins of course. :-)

Besides the pumpkins and other decorations we can see the "Whiches' Radio Dance medley", try to compete with eachother through the hay Labyrinth (wich is for kids...:-)), try rides if you are up for that, etc...

MEETING POINT: Tivoli's Main Entrance (across from Axel Torv)

MEETING TIME: 14.10.2009 from 19:00-19:15 (after that we enter Tivoli)

Hi everyone, It's time for some info about the Opera-outing!

We're off seeing "The rape of Lureatia". It will take place on friday the 20^th march and is put up on the old stage on Kongens Nytorv. I'll need to know by the latest on Sunday if you're coming and how many tickets you'll need. (Youth ticket under 30 = 76 kr., and regular 215 kr.). Tell me on sunday if you want to join and please bring the money too, so I can bye the tickets asap. See you soon!

The rape of Lureatia

Act 1

Today, in a dimension apart from ours, the spirits of Lucretia and Tarquinius are setting the scene to tell their own story on the theatre. Tarquinius' spirit wants to show Lucretia's spirit what really happened during the events that led to the myth of The Rape of Lucretia. The plot that they are staging is set in 500 B.C. in Rome, which is ruled by the Etruscans.

An army camp outside Rome

Two Roman generals, Junius and Collatinus, are spending the evening drinking together with the Etruscan Prince, Tarquinius. They say that most wives have been unfaithful during their husbands' absence, amongst them the wife of Junius. Only Collatinus' wife, Lucretia, has been found chaste at home. The unmarried Tarquinius teases Junius about being a cuckold, and they fight. Collatinus manages to separate them, and they all toast the chaste Lucretia.

Junius is devastated because his political career is threatened by Tarquinius, who turns Lucretia's faithfulness into a fashion. However, he hides his growing hate and pretends to be compassionate both towards the unmarried Tarquinius and towards Collatinus, who confesses how desperate his marriage with Lucretia really is.

When alone with Tarquinius, Junius provokes the Etruscan Prince to put Lucretia's chastity to the test. Knowing that Lucretia's happiness with Collatinus is an illusion and that she and the passionate Tarquinius are attracted to each other, he can hope that a love meeting between them might shatter her world enough to make her kill herself. This would give him the victim he needs to collect the Roman hate against the Etruscans under his command. Eventually, Tarquinius rides off to Lucretia's home.

Lucretia's house

Late at night, Lucretia is still spinning wool together with Bianca and Lucia. Together with Lucretia's spirit, whom they do not notice, the women tell of the pain that love means for them. Lucretia rebels against this idea, but Bianca calms her down again.

Tarquinius arrives and suggestively asks Lucretia for shelter during the night, although his own palace is not far away. Lucretia passes the test when she accommodates the Prince's request politely, but does not respond to his advances.

Act 2

Lucretia's spirit reads about the achievements of Etruscan culture.

Collatinus, Junius, Lucia and Bianca give air to their growing hate against the Etruscans.

Lucretia's bedroom

At night, Tarquinius approaches Lucretia in her bedroom. When he kisses her, she awakes and vehemently rejects him, despite being passionately attracted to him. He tries to seduce her. In a calm moment, they recognize their love for each other.

This makes that Lucretia is suddenly able to see through the collective self-deception that her previous life was. The cardboard world she had been living in falls apart, and she can see herself as the emotionally mature, passionate woman she could be, just as the ancient fertility goddesses. She can also see the spirits of herself and Tarquinius, and the different renderings of the Lucretia myth that they have collected over the centuries.

Unable to embrace the immense changes that these new recognitions would demand, Lucretia sends Tarquinius away.

In a hymn to Virgin Mary, Lucretia's and Tarquinius' spirits bemoan that Lucretia is not able to embrace the truth about herself.

Lucretia's house

When the sun is rising the morning after, Lucretia's servicewomen pull their cardboard universe back into place and decorate it with flowers.

Lucretia enters, trying to keep her countenance. When presented with the orchids to arrange for Collatinus, she loses control. She sends after her husband, binds the orchids into a wreath and leaves. Bianca tells Lucia how she raised Lucretia as a princess of purity.

Collatinus arrives with Junius to find out what has happened. Lucretia enters, fighting hard to suppress her pleasant memories of last night. Her husband implicitly asks her to renounce her love for Tarquinius, but she cannot do that. When Junius and her servants hand her a knife, she kills herself.

The dead Lucretia is celebrated as a martyr. Showing her off as a victim, Junius manages to collect the Romans behind himself. Soon, he and Collatinus will rule Rome as the first Roman Consuls.

The spirit of Lucretia has now understood how Lucretia's death was brought about. Horrified, she breaks down in mourning and despair. She receives consolation from the spirit of Tarquinius, who knows that Christ, who stands for unconditional love, is stronger than Lucretia's wasteful, misused death.

Saturday night everybody will have the opportunity to tell everybody
something about their home country! It can be a funny fact, a
curiosity or a power point with a selection of images. It just cannot
be too long, of course!
After the mini presentations we will come down to the kitchen for the
PIZZA MAKING!
We will provide the basic ingredients: the dough, tomato sauce,
oregano and cheese (and drinks)
However each person will be responsible for one pizza and then they
should bring their own ingredients to "customize" it.
Each pizza will have to tell a bit about the home country of the
person who made it.
For example: I am from Brazil and I'll bring a very common kind of
pizza that we have where we mix chicken slices with a different kind
of cheese.

After multicultural pizzas we will have a movie session upstairs!
